Let’s Build Together

We acknowledge that the escalating expenses associated with youth sports have marginalized certain families and communities.

Build Through Sport endeavors to address this issue by ensuring that more individuals have the opportunity to engage in sporting activities.

Our organization offers grants to eligible families and not-for-profit community-based recreational sports organizations situated in low-income areas. These grants are distributed based on need and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to fund availability.

Individual grants can be utilized for various purposes, including registration fees, equipment, and other associated costs related to sports classes, recreational leagues, and travel sports. For further details regarding eligibility criteria and the application process, please refer to our FAQs section below.

  • We offer grants to assist families with youth athletes aged 12-24 in need, as well as grants for non-profit organizations in low-income areas that offer community-based recreational sports programs for youth in the same age group. These grants come in both full and partial amounts, determined by eligibility criteria.

  • We prioritize assisting families nationwide who struggle to afford youth sports programs. Our eligibility criteria are based on various factors, including the most recent guidelines from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. To be eligible for a full grant, your household income must be below 60% of the estimated state median income for your household size. For a partial grant covering 50% of the expenses, your income should be below the estimated state median income for your household size. Build Through Sport retains the discretion to consider exceptions to these guidelines in cases of valid extenuating circumstances.

  • To be eligible for an organizational grant, your entity must be a non-profit organization or a school sports program. Your focus should be on providing community-based recreational or school sports activities for youth groups. Documentation demonstrating budget constraints is required, and your operations must be in an area where the local school district has a higher proportion of low-income students than the state average, or where the average household income falls below 60% of the estimated state median income based on data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Build Through Sport reserves the right to consider exceptions to eligibility criteria in cases of valid extenuating circumstances.

  • Families are permitted to submit up to four applications per year for each child seeking funding for recreational sports, with a maximum cap of $350 per sport per session.

Alternatively, families may submit one application annually for a travel sport, and up to two applications per year for recreational sports per child, provided they are different from the travel sport.

Typically, families may only apply for a grant for one sport per child at a time. However, Build Through Sport retains the discretion to assess overlapping grant requests and may approve them considering that many sports seasons overlap to some extent.

Furthermore, Build Through Sport reserves the right to limit total annual grant allocations to $3500 per child per family. Each grant application must be submitted separately for each child and each grant request.

Grant applications are treated as confidential and processed based on need and the order they are received, contingent upon the availability of funds.

  • The first step is to complete a contact form by clicking on the appropriate "Apply For A Grant" link. You'll provide some basic information, and a member of the Build Through Sport team will assess your initial details. They'll reach out to you to request additional information if needed, or to inform you if your family or organization doesn't meet the criteria for qualification or if we're unable to fund your grant at that time.

If the initial assessment indicates that you're a potential candidate for a grant, we'll proceed by sending you a grant application along with requirements for income verification documents. You'll submit the application to our Programs team for review. After reviewing your application, a team member will contact you to communicate the outcome of the review.

Should a grant be approved, our team will coordinate payment directly to the organization, and any sports equipment will be purchased and shipped directly to you. Please note response times from the Build Through Sport team may vary.

  • A member of Build Through Sport will reach out to you. If the grant involves equipment, Build Through Sport will procure the necessary items and arrange for them to be delivered directly to you. As part of the grant agreement, all recipients will be required to fulfill media and social media responsibilities. Additionally, you'll need to complete mid-season and post-season surveys, which should be submitted to Build Through Sport. These surveys help us gather insights into your athlete's experience. Furthermore, your coach may also need to complete a survey regarding your athlete's participation.
